Farnhamian declared sex offender for life

In addition to a prison sentence, a man from Farnham, Montérégie, will be registered for life in the Sex Offender Registry for the actions he has taken.
S teve Tremblay, 35, pleaded guilty in April to charges of sexual assault of a minor and the production, possession and distribution of child pornography.

He committed these offenses in 2017. The victim was then under 14 years old.

Judge Serge Champoux, of the Court of Quebec, described as “extremely serious” the actions of Mr. Tremblay on Tuesday.

At the same time, he accepted the joint proposal of the Crown and the defense, to sentence him to 45 months in prison.

Given the time spent in pre-trial detention – Mr. Tremblay was arrested in May 2018 and was never released – he has nearly two years in prison to serve.

The judge recommended that he be incarcerated in the Percé provincial prison, where he will be able to undergo therapy for his sexual deviance and drug addiction.

The magistrate also granted the prosecution’s requests for the accused to provide a DNA sample and be registered for life in the Sex Offender Registry in light of this case and his criminal history.

Steve Tremblay had been found guilty of robbery, break and enter, mischief and breach of his conditions in the past.

When he leaves prison, he will be forbidden to be in the presence of minors and to use the internet for 10 years. Nor can he possess a weapon for the rest of his life.

The man will also be subject to probation for three years and can not communicate with the victim.

For the defense, Mireille Leblanc said that his client has suffered “injuries that have led him in this life course”, he has always acknowledged his guilt and wants to be detained in Percé.

In the prosecution, Mr. Laurence Bélanger mentioned that this file refers to “four events” relating to sexual assault, “several touch” in addition to the distribution of illegal images. Mr. Tremblay has a high risk of re-offending and shows low accountability.

She recommended him to “work on him”.
