Record participation in Ferland-et-Boilleau
The Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Motocross Club season kicked off on Saturday with a record participation on the Ferland-et-Boilleau circuit. No less than 200 entries were recorded in what was the only event of the season at this location.
As announced Wednesday in The Daily , the owner of the track, Gilbert Gagnon, decided to close the track because of neighbors who complained noise. The track will be open on June 4th and 11th, after which Mr. Gagnon will not hold any more activities of the season.
The participation record will not change the short-term plans of the owner, even if this great popularity will become an asset in front of the town council of Ferland-et-Boilleau.
“I will definitely bring him to the board,” said Gilbert Gagnon. He is aware, however, that the noise annoys some people, and it was out of politeness that he agreed to stop the activities for the season.
“Public opinion is not totally in agreement with the closing of the runway,” he said. The season ends on June 11, but we’ll see what happens next. ”
President of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Motocross Club, Remy Labeaume was delighted with such enthusiasm for this first race in 2019. He suspected that traffic would be growing after what he saw in the spring. Counting spectators, about 600 people were present at Ferland-et-Boilleau.
“It shows that the sport is still alive and attracting people,” said Labeaume. We saw it at the beginning of the season on different tracks, since people were going to train. We had a great day and there were only a few accidents, which is normal in a risky sport like ours. As a rule, it went well. It’s mission accomplished for the first of the season. ”
The second leg of the season will be held on Saturday, June 15, at L’Ascension. In total, the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean motocross club organizes eight events during the summer. Remy Labeaume is hoping to attract 150 and 160 participants for each of the bands.
