Saguenay Wine Festival: Tourists at the rendezvous
The Saguenay Wine Festival is wearing its hat of the most popular event in the province. On Thursday, during the opening 5 to 7, festival-goers from all over Quebec came together. Some had chosen Saguenay as a vacation destination simply to participate in the event.
C ‘was the kickoff of the 13th edition of the Saguenay River Wine Festival, Thursday at the Square of the citizen of Chicoutimi. The organization went into “rain mode”, with evening showers announced. The organizers do not wish to move the evening to the Old Port, so the stands were installed under the shelter of the Place du citoyen. Finally, the festival goers were lucky. They all could taste the wines of Alsace, the host region, without a drop of rain spoiling the party.
Alain Paquet, Jean-Eudes Morin and Régis Duchesne like to meet at the opening of the Wine Festival.
“It really has become the most important event for wine lovers in Quebec, Canada and even North America. What makes it so successful is really the atmosphere. ”
– Philippe Lapeyrie
Chantale and Robert, who had just arrived from Saint-Jérôme, in the Laurentians, had heard about the event on TV. “My wife said to me:” Pack your bags, we’re going on holiday in Saguenay! “,” Robert said. The couple was hoping to meet Philippe Lapeyrie, who has been the spokesperson for the event since it was founded 13 years ago. The meeting was immortalized by the photographer of Le Quotidien.
There was a crowd on Thursday night at the Place du citoyen.
Festival-goers from the Gaspésie were also visiting the Saguenay to taste the wines in the spotlight. This was the case of Michel, Amqui, who has been coming to Saguenay for nine years. “We should soon organize buses! “Said the Gaspesian.
This is one of the things that Philippe Lapeyrie likes about the festival. This unifying side and, above all, accessible.
The spokesperson for the event, Philippe Lapeyrie, made a toast with Robert and Chantale from the Laurentians.
“It really has become the most important event for wine lovers in Quebec, Canada and even North America. What makes it so successful is really the atmosphere. It’s not posh like many salons. It’s chic, but accessible. We’re in gougounes and t-shirt, it’s wonderful. Even the winemakers come out of their holidays to come here! Explained Mr. Lapeyrie, who always enjoys chatting with festival-goers.
The Saguenay Wine Festival continues on Friday and Saturday. Over the weekend, between 40,000 and 50,000 people are expected on Racine Street. Some 350 wines and spirits are featured.
