Scientists from the University of Glasgow proved the groundlessness of conclusions of some experts, who claimed that overweight and even obesity do not increase the risk of cardiovascular, but on the contrary, can protect people from disease.
Reports mir24.tv for this, specialists have carried out their large-scale study, which analysed data obtained during the examination of 296 535 adult white Europeans. For their health was monitored from 2007 to 2015.
In the end, scientists came to the conclusion that the risk of heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure is growing, as an increasing body mass index (BMI) and waist size.
Moreover, despite the fact that considered normal a BMI of 18 to 25 kg/m2, individuals with BMI more than 22 to 23 kg/m2 already at increased risk of heart problems.
For example, 13% increased risk of cardiovascular disease in women with a BMI exceeding 5.2 kg/m2 and men with a BMI exceeding 4.3 kg/m2.
