While many events in the world of running have been cancelled due to the COVID-19, the organizers of the Marathon Gaspésia Percé keep their eyes riveted on the finish line, a few kilometers away.
The event, which was attended by 300 runners in its fifth edition, last year, will likely be back this year on the banks of the river, in spite of everything. In recent months, many running events have been cancelled, pandemic is forcing. “It has not really been surprised to see the great events to be cancelled,” says the director-general of Gaspesia Events, Jean-François Tapp. But as it is an event that is more modest, we can more easily comply with the sanitary measures and be reactive”.
In order to ensure compliance with the measures imposed by the public health, the organizing committee has decided to make a run “test” with participants from the region a few weeks ago. “We did a relay race in the wood, in particular to test the points “mode COVID” and to see if it was easy to adhere to the distancing physical,” says Mr Tapp.
Pliers to give the supply, no contacts in the end of the race and distancing physical at the start, the race was definitely not the same look, ” says the director-general of Gaspesia Event. “It was really different, but always fun!” lance-t-il.
Health as a priority
Even if she is determined to keep the only race still on the calendar this summer in the East-of-Quebec, the organization of the Marathon Gaspésia does not exclude the reporter in the case where a second wave of contamination was the Quebec. “We were the first to cancel our Ultratrail, then it is sure that it would make a pinch in the heart, but we will not hesitate to refer to the race or to change its form if it is necessary”, explains Jean-François Tapp. “We must not forget that an organized race, as enjoyable as it is, this is not an essential service,” he concludes.
If all goes as planned, the race will take place on October 11, Drilled.
