Girl deceased in Granby: appearance of suspects postponed
The cause of the Granby couple who is suspected of causing the death of a seven-year-old girl on April 30 was postponed.
She arrived Thursday at the stage of the release investigation, at the Courthouse in Granby.
Expertises remain to be filed, which should determine whether further charges will be brought by the public prosecutor. Crown Attorneys undertook to deepen the analysis of the evidence before making these decisions, including the autopsy report and the preliminary results of the police investigation.
The girl’s father faces charges of kidnapping while his wife is charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.
Shortly after the tragedy, it was learned that the girl’s mother-in-law had received an absolute discharge in July 2018 after charges of assaulting the child had been laid.
Hundreds of people attended the funeral of the child on May 9 at St-Eugène de Granby Church. His death sparked an uproar over the child protection system in Quebec. The authorities ordered investigations into the case, including a public coroner’s inquiry.
