Increased Vigilance of the SQ on the highway and the water during the construction holidays
The canadian Press
MONTREAL – The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) announced Friday that it will intensify its interventions on the road network, water bodies and trails during the construction holiday, which will begin in a few hours.
Various police operations are planned during this period, until 2 August.
The SQ has been observed in the past that the period of the construction holiday is the time of year where the number of fatal collisions and injuries is the highest. Last year, during this long vacation, 15 people have lost their lives in crashes that occurred on the territory served by the Sûreté du Québec.
Usually, since a large number of Quebecers to take leave during this period, the number of trips on the road network increases significantly.
Even if several people intend to spend their holidays at home due to the pandemic of COVID-19, SQ reports that the temporary closure of Canada’s borders could cause an increase of traffic on the roads of Quebec.
With respect to activities in the trails and on the water, the Sûreté du Québec reminds us that wearing a helmet is compulsory for the followers of all-terrain vehicles (ATVS) and that it is strongly recommended to wear the vest for buoyancy individual at all times during boat trips.
