Netflix finally removes the suicide scene from the 13 Reasons Why series
Netflix has decided to remove a graphic scene of suicide from the season finale of its 13 Reasons Why show as the series prepares to launch its third season.
The creator of the series, Brian Yorkey, said on Twitter that the intention, showing suicide in so many details, was to “make sure no one would ever want to emulate him”. But the producers heard the concerns of mental health experts and decided, with the streaming service, to remove the scene.
Brian Yorkey says the editing “will help the show to do as much good as possible for most people while mitigating the risks for particularly vulnerable young viewers.”
Suicide prevention groups support the decision.
The series garnered praise and criticism when it first aired in 2017. The show included warnings on its graphic scenes and Netflix set up a crisis assistance website.
