Not less than 1400 workers in the public service have volunteered 48 hours to go to work in the health care network, has learned The canadian Press.

They respond well to the call for the redeployment initiated by the government of Quebec, overwhelmed by the disaster caused by the pandemic COVID-19 in NURSING homes. The question remains, however : will there be using their services on the ground ?

The needs are urgent in the metropolitan region and the redeployment of the staff of the public service is deemed “priority” by the government, has noted the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).

The trade unions have been informed recently that 1400 of their members had responded to the call of the government launched in the beginning of the week.

“Our people have responded very openly and it does not surprise me that they are professionals who have raised their hand, even if the tasks asked are not of the duties of professionals in the government,” said the president of the Syndicat des professionnels du government du Quebec (SPGQ), Line Lamarre, in an interview with The canadian Press on Wednesday.

Thus, its members, who are often educated university degrees, could be called to do the housekeeping, support in NURSING homes or assistance from the human resources, according to the needs that have been reported. They will receive their normal salary.

The SPGQ is anticipated that many of its members will volunteer, because ” people continue to call us to find out how to proceed. We know that there are more people who are going to want to go there, ” said Ms. Lamarre.

However, grey areas persist. The SPGQ asked the authorities to clarify the rules on the wearing of the mask in order not to compromise the health of its members.

Ms. Lamarre is also a demand to put in place mechanisms for resolution of disputes that may arise, for example, if a manager behaves in an inappropriate way, or, if it determines the requirements inaccessible in connection with certain tasks.
