The chance does sometimes well things. Guillaume Fournier, Samuel Matteau and Yannick Nolin were in Louisiana,
2017, to achieve Let the good times roll.
The guys wanted to take a few pictures at the Festival of the crayfish,
that takes place at Pont Breaux. After a few moments on the spot, rather, they have decided to shoot another film : Acadiana.
“We have been seduced, confused… we knew We had something exceptional,” explains Guillaume Fournier on the phone. Because during this festival of three days, the film makers could lay their gaze on the Cajun (the Cajuns in english) in the context of this big “melting pot” that became the Louisiana.
On the spot, the descendants of the deported Acadians in the Eighteenth century during the Great upheaval, Aboriginal and American pure juice, mix. “It is a portrait more complex than it seems at a certain America,” says the director.
This festival, seemingly trivial, reveals an importance for the Cajuns. The exile of the maritime provinces to Louisiana was so long and arduous that the lobsters become crayfish, laugh-they…
testifies, in its way,
so many centuries of vain attempts of assimilation, realized that the cultural appropriation that has resulted. Sometimes you have to read between the images of this film, without narration, “which leaves room for interpretation”.
The trio is inspired by the tradition of ” direct cinema, “while freeing itself of traditional codes. It fits in with the type of documentary more hybrid décloisonnent the separations between reality and fiction.”
