The IOC intends to suspend Russia from participation in the summer Olympic games 2020 in Tokyo

МОК намерен отстранить Россию от участия в летней Олимпиаде-2020 в Токио

The Olympic Committee of Russia has received official notification from the International Olympic Committee with the request to assist and to take the necessary legal measures in order to ensure the enforceability of the decision of the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS) of April 23, 2018 on the deprivation of the bobsledder Alexander Zubkov of the title of Olympic champion.

Notification to the OCD sent in connection with the decision of Moscow city court from November 21, 2018, which restored the former athlete and current President of Federation of bobsled of Russia’s Zubkov in the status of Olympic champion and Sochi 2014, the official website of the ROC, writes UNIAN.

The Russian Olympic Committee 5 December 2018 has filed an appeal against the decision of the Moscow city court, which, in particular, violates the terms of the Convention on the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards (new York 1958). In their actions OCD comes from the fact that the decision of the CAS, even being recognized as unenforceable in the territory of the Russian Federation, does not entail the abolition of the decisions and sanctions of the IOC since, in principle, cannot be the subject of the review of Russian state courts, including the court, for lack of jurisdiction past to review decisions rendered by the international arbitral Tribunal (arbitration).

If it is determined that the provisions of the Olympic Charter of the IOC are not enforced on the territory of the Russian Federation, it may entail the most severe sanctions, up to a total suspension of Russian athletes from participation in the Olympic games in the Olympic team of Russia and the flag of the Russian Federation already at the Games in 2020 in Tokyo.

We will remind, in September last year, the United States has called for Russia to be banned from the Olympics-2018. Anti-doping Agency, 28 countries have supported the call for National anti-doping organizations to remove Russia from the Olympics-2018.

In addition, the international Olympic Committee intends to introduce sanctions against Russia due to massive and systematic violations of doping rules at the Olympic games 2014 in Sochi.
