PARIS — The star of ‘afro-trap’, the rapper MHD, charged and imprisoned in France since January, 2019, for “voluntary homicide” after a brawl deadly to Paris in the summer of 2018, was released Thursday under court supervision, has learned the AFP to several sources.
A source close to the dossier told AFP that the warrant of committal of the musician was to expire Thursday, and his lawyer Me Elise Arfi has confirmed to AFP that it had been released in the middle of the day.
MHD is the inventor self-proclaimed the”afro-trap”, a mixture of rap and african music is appreciated in France and abroad. He is known in particular for a tube for the glory of the PSG, and enjoyed by Madonna or Drake.
The producer DSK on the Beat, who has been working with MHD on its self-titled debut album, released mid-day on Snapchat a short video of MHD presented as a tour to the output of the la Santé prison where he was incarcerated, before you remove it.
The artist, however, could possibly return to jail soon: the Paris court of appeal shall review, on July 23, according to a justice source, the appeal by the prosecutors office of Paris against the order of 7 July that led to the release and placement under judicial supervision of MHD.
If the Paris court of appeal had to overturn this order issued by a judge of freedoms and detention, a new warrant of committal may be pronounced against the artist, leading to a new prison.
His career has experienced a significant setback in January 2019 when he has been under investigation for “voluntary homicide” and placed in pretrial detention in a case of settlement of accounts assumed between rival groups in the north-east of Paris.
In the night of 5 to 6 July 2018, Loïc K., 23 years old, was knocked down by a car, beaten up and wounded with a knife in the Xe arrondissement of the French capital, when a settlement of account between rival gangs of the Tenth and Nineteenth arrondissements.
A dozen people hammered him, a scene filmed by a witness from a window. The man is very quickly died of his injuries.
At least three witnesses identified formally MHD, according to elements of the inquiry that the AFP had prior knowledge. The artist disagrees with the facts.
