The international community has committed itself to allocate a record amount of more than 8.3 billion euros to meet the needs of Syrians and neighboring countries, and to resume the political process in Syria.
According to the European external action service, at the end of the two-day conference devoted to Syria and the region, nearly two-thirds of the financial obligations assumed by the EU and member States, reports “European true”.
“We want this conflict has not been forgotten, we want the people of Syria were not forgotten, at a time when the international community seemed to think about it a little less. We need to focus on a political solution to the conflict in Syria. It’s not over yet, people need our support,” said EU high representative for the common foreign and security policy Federica Mogherini.
The conference, which was held March 12-13, was attended by over a thousand representatives of non-governmental international and regional organizations, civil society in Syria, officials of the EU and the UN. The purpose of the meeting was the preservation of the Syrian issue at the top of the international agenda.
The conference managed to attract a record 6.2 billion euros in 2019 and 2.1 billion euros for 2020, to meet the needs of Syrians and neighboring countries. Foreign service reminded that in 2011, the EU and its member States mobilized to help Syria more than 17 billion euros.
Recall, the foreign Ministers of the EU approved new sanctions for use of chemical weapons against four citizens of Russia. Previously, France had frozen the assets of persons involved in himatake in Syria.
In addition, 29 December 2018 entered into force the EU’s decision to extend economic sanctions against Russia until July 31, 2019.
